Imagine 13,000 people wearing a shirt that says: “I love public health.” APHA’s 143rd Annual Meeting in Chicago might make it happen.

APHA wants you to show your love for public health at the nation’s largest gathering of public health professionals — by wearing it. The idea of the T-shirt is to create a public health movement, supporting APHA’s plan to become the healthiest nation in one generation.

“We’re always looking for ways to kind of push the message.” said David Hartogs, senior marketing manager at APHA.

The shirt is for sale online when you register for the Annual Meeting, and will also be sold at the Annual Meeting itself. Shirts purchased online are $15, while shirts purchased at the Annual Meeting are $18.

Shirts will be distributed at the meeting at the APHA Press satellite booth, and after Saturday and Sunday registration, will be available for pickup at the APHA Press booth, number 941. Shirts are only available to APHA staff and attendees at the Annual Meeting in Chicago from Oct. 31 – Nov. 4.

According to Hartogs, the goal is “really to get as many people to wear the shirt as possible on the same day.”

“Rather than do a normal Annual Meeting t-shirt, why not do a shirt that really gets behind the movement?” Hartogs added.
