On Sept. 9, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, MD, MBA, issued a Call to Action to promote walking and walkable communities. Step It Up! calls on Americans to make their communities easy to traverse, and to commit to walking for a healthier, more active lifestyle.



Having easily walkable communities is about more than getting from here to there. There are many health benefits to participating in active transportation — the way we describe getting around by using human energy, particularly walking or biking.
