Juanita Constible, "Climate Reality" presenter, addresses APHA staff in a lively, interactive presentation.
Around the nation, specially trained climate activists are speaking to community groups and engaging citizens around the urgency and solvability of the climate crisis at a grassroots level worldwide and climate’s impact on human health. The initiative is at the heart of the Climate Reality Project, founded by former Vice President Al Gore.
On Wednesday, APHA staff hosted “Climate Reality” presenter, Juanita Constible, the project’s director of science and solutions. Constible is an Antarctic scientist and advisor for the National Wildlife Federation’s coastal Louisiana program. In addition, she’s the author of “Climate Change from Pole to Pole: Biology Investigations,” a book for high school and college classrooms about the biological effects of climate change, and is a frequent lecturer on this topic.
During her discussion, Constible explained the science behind climate change, its health impacts, alternative energy approaches and the consequences if left unaddressed.
Constible and other “Climate Reality” speakers are available to present to your organization, school or group. Presentations can be scheduled to help dispel misconceptions around climate change, underscore the negative health results of inaction and share ways for becoming part of the solution.
Also, APHA’s Environmental Public Health website is host to valuable resources about recent work and advocacy efforts on climate change and other environmental public health concerns.
