Local health officials and public health partners nationwide gathered July 11-13 for the 2012 National Association of County and City Health Officials annual conference in Los Angeles.

This year’s conference, “Navigating the Currents: Positioning Local Health Departments for the Future,” included themes such as chronic disease prevention and control, public health research, how the local public health workforce deals with limited resources and building a disaster resilient community.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Thomas Frieden, spoke at the conference via video message, and headlined guest speakers also included CDC Deputy Director Judith A. Monroe and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Director Jonathan E. Fielding.
